The Memorial ‘Het Apeldoornsche Bosch’ commemorates the deportation of about 1.300 people - patients and staff - of the Jewish psychiatric institution “Het Apeldoornsche Bosch” to Auschwitz/Birkenau. Nobody survived this deportation.
This war monument was unveiled on April 23 1990 by Princess Juliana.
Each year in January there is a remembrance ceremony at the monument.
The memorial - designed by Dutch artist Ralph Prins - is a curved wall, covered with a mosaica existing of thousands of mosaics.
Text on the front side:
‘22 JANUARI 1943
HET APELDOORNSCHE BOSCH’.
‘NOOIT HEB IK
WAT ONS WERD ONTNOMEN,
ZO BITTER, BITTER LIEFGEHAD’
(Translation: Never I have, what was taken from us, loved so bitterly)
The monument is situated in the “Prinsenpark”, Frisolaan, Apeldoorn.
